Over the last few decades fashion designer Madhu Jain has never strayed away from what she began to do early on when she embarked upon her journey as a young designer - that of reviving crafts and textiles.  Her designs are incredibly Indian and has stayed that way always for as long as I remember. And I do remember at least more than a decade of it. It was no surprise then when Madhu, always immaculately dressed in Indian attire, unveiled her latest creation - Bamboo-Silk Ikat at Ogaan, Haus Khas Village, Delhi, marked by her signature patterns (You would know it's a Madhu Jain anywhere in the world)

It's a trail blazer for sure. The collection reflects a convergence of three different schools of weaving in Madhu’s inimitable style, which is to craft distinctive combinations of two different weaving traditions to create new textiles, high on quality and design. Her interpretation of the Ikat traditions of Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and India, rendered faultlessly in the sit-up and notice bamboo-silk, which is bio degradable and eco friendly and have taken her a good 15 years of R&D with her master weavers. "I love the fact that this new textile does not eat into the earth’s scarce resources; rather, with bamboo being so plentiful in India, we can provide livelihood options for bamboo growers. The silver lining is that bamboo is biodegradable, so this fabric will leave a very negligible ecological footprint. It truly is a fabric of the future,” she says. Well Madhu, we love anything that is bio degradable and this earth surely needs more like you.
