Are you looking for an exciting pre-wedding shoot outside of Delhi, that is not too heavy on the pocket? You needn’t go too far. Jodhpur is just the place! With its amazing landscape of the Thar Desert, brilliant architecture and the feel of royalty oozing from every corner, Jodhpur fits the bill perfectly. It offers splendid options for shoots where couples can capture instagram worthy clicks against the backdrop of colossal fortresses, romantic deserts,  mersmerising lakes or verdant landscapes, besides the vibrant and colourful local markets of the city.

Arriving in Jodhpur:

We boarded an overnight train from Delhi arriving around 9:30 am in Jodhpur without having to waste a day. The railway station was so clean and beautifully painted that we thought one could start the shoot from here itself. We headed straight to Raj Bagh, a Treehouse Heritage Hotel. We were hosted by this beautiful hotel and loved the large well manicured lawns which is perfect for a wedding occasions. Built in red sandstone, the sprawling property is warm and welcoming. The boutique hotel was, earlier, residence to a family and the various artifacts adorned in it added a personality of its own to its rooms. Little sit out areas ouside the rooms are a great way to relax and bond for the couple as their pictures get clicked. There was a huge leg of a charpoy (bed) that has been turned into a lamp and the various types of swords displayed on the walls tell the saga of the brave Rajputs.

We were surprised to notice that this Heritage property is pretty affordable so one can plan just any wedding function against the magnificient red sandstone backdrop of the property. They even have a temple in the premises which was used by the family living there earlier.

The expansive lawn in the property serves as a perfect venue for a Roka ceremony, pre wedding shoot  or a bachelorette party. They also have a small swimming pool that is ideal venue for a cocktail or a pool party for the bride or the groom. Once you are there don't forget to go around town visiting the historical places in and around Jodhpur. Here are a list of places we visited as part of our stay at the heritage hotel.

Beautiful Locales:

1.Mehrangarh Fort

The massive 15th century Meherangarh Fort is turned into a well preserved museum today. Originally, it was a Palace built by the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha that was later constructed by Maharaja Ajit Singh in the 17th century

Bonding over shoot sessions that take place in romantic historic locations is a great way to break the ice between copules.  Besides, pre wedding shoots have great memory value and bring a smile on the lips,  when you look back years later. Seeped in history and culture  with its many palaces within, it is a perfect romantic and regal setting for pre–wedding shoots.  The imposing structure is a marvel on its own and makes for brilliant photography options. One can get a bird’s eye view of the blue city from the top. Couples can pay a nominal fee to carry cameras inside this beautiful Fort and capture the memorable moments for your future together.

2.Umaid Bhawan:

The grandeur of this royal palace is an ideal setting for romantic pre wedding shoots with your would be life partner. Little wonder it is a much sought after place by Bollywood for weddings.

A section of the massive Palace is turned into the famed Heritage Hotel Umaid Bhawan run by the Taj Group where Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra wedded American singer Nick Jonas in royal style.  Another section is devoted to an interesting museum where historical artifact, weapons  of the Royal Household are displayed. The clock collection here is mighty impressive. The Palace is a marvel in architecture where stones are inter-locked together without the use of limestone or cement. Outside of the splendid Palace is an outstanding collection of Vintage cars that makes for excellent photo shoot .

3.Jaswant Thada:

This is the royal cenotaph which is on the way to Mehrangarh Fort. A rocky winding path to the Thada reveals an architectural marvel of Jodhpur city. We were told that it is also known as the Taj Mahal of Marwar as it is built in white marble. The Thada was constructed by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh. We visited the Thada in the early hours of the morning, so it was not open yet but the magnificient views we got of the sunrise and surroundings were just amazing. Make it a point to include this as a spot for your pre wedding shoots here.

4.Rao Jodha Rock Park: For nature loving couples, this is a great venue for a pre wedding shoot. There are four nature trails one can choose from and the volacanic rock and sandstone formations is sure to add the adventure angle to your shoot. The best part is, it is near the Mehrangarh Fort and one need not travel much to get here. Just check the timings and entry fee of the Park.

 5.Kaylana Lake:

For those who love the romantic silence of water bodies, Jodhpur also has beautiful lakes although  mostly, man made ones. Kaylana Lake  was built by Pratap Singh and is located 8 kms out of the city. It offers an excellent viewpoint and there is option for boating as well. Include this spot if you are the types for romantic sunset pictures.

6.Mandore Gardens :

This used to be the ancient capital before it was shifted to Mehrangarh Fort. The historical Mandore Fort, beautiful Palace, lush green gardens and the grand architecture of the temples here are a great backdrop for a pre-wedding shoot. Another unique feature here is the Ravana Temple. Don’t miss this one, while in Jodhpur.
