We were part of the fantabulous fam trip for wedding planners organised by Arati Thapa of www.weddingfables.com and Atika Gupta of Brands We Love. Our gracious hosts were the Shangri-La Colombo. Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa and Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives. Here's our blog post of our stay at these beautiful properties

By Nidhi and JC

The Group of Boss Ladies arrived at Colombo Airport on SriLankan Airlines. All of us had a great time on board as the meals served were lip-smacking with quiet a few beverage options as well. Also it always adds to the pleasant experience when the crew is happy and helpful.

Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa

After a four hour drive our first stay was at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa. The beauty of this place cannot be captured in words or pictures, although we did click a few thousand….!!! The very site of unending blue skies and water made me and JC feel so ecstatic. It was vast and spacious. The view from our room of the Indian Ocean along with the greens was so beautiful that it is difficult to describe in a picture. One really has to visit the Shangri-La’s Hambantota to experience the nature. The resort has an outstanding 18 hole golf course with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. To further relax the mind and body we went to the CHI Ayurveda Spa, where they offer one of a kind of authentic Ayurvedic treatments.

The lobby

We thoroughly enjoyed all our meals at Bojunhala, Ulpatha and Gimanhala as the service was very professional and friendly. The lavish spread of the breakfast buffet was everything that you could hope for. Not to miss were the steaming hot freshly made hoppers with a variety of chutneys. The entire staff worked very well as a team and we were not left wanting at any point The Hotel has 300 luxury rooms and suites which can easily accommodate guests for large Indian weddings. The property is quiet wedding friendly with options for both indoor and outdoor venues to hold various wedding related functions. Altogether, one must visit this place at least one in his/her lifetime.

Every space at the resort is instagram worth, here's me not missing any of them :)

Shangri-La Colombo

With more than 500 rooms the Hotel has ample space to host Indian weddings. The Ballroom here is sparkling new and completetly pillar-less. It is the largest ballroom that can cater to seated banquets for upto 1,500 guests. The staff is quiet informative about Indian customs and traditions. An informative meeting with the experienced local vendors helped us to understand the pros and cons of the destination in general. We were treated to a lavish buffet at the Table One restaurant. Also we would highly recommend Kaema Sutra restaurant and bar for their rich menu, delicious food and a great atmosphere. Our two day stay here was filled with great food that included lavish buffets and to die for breakfast spread. There are also many places to visit and see of historical and religious values in this country.

Shangri-La's Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

Maldives is true pradise known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs. One of the very few places that actually look and feel the same as they are portrayed on the website. The place is perfect for a relaxing few days with or without kids, with so many activities to choose from such as snorkling, scuba diving, water sports, golf etc.The Hotel offers endless luxury, stunning white sand beaches and amazing underwater activities. The Water Villa we stayed at was too good to be true, it truly surpassed all our expectations. It was a very zen like experience to sit back in the comfort and quiet of your very own luxurious water villa. One can easily step down from the deck to feel and explore the beautiful blue water. If not you can always sunbathe on the hammock outside.

No matter where in the world Indians travel, their trip is not complete without feasting on Indian food. Dr. Ali’s restaurant at Shangri-La's Maldives completely satiated our Indian taste buds to the hilt. Few gastronomical delights were Tandoori Prawns, Butter Chicken, Makhani Dal and variety of vegetarian dishes and Indian breads. The General Manager of the Hotel, Philippe Claverotte had some very entertaining stories to tell us along with his surprising magical tricks. This property is perfect for a variety of occasions be it youngsters, cocktail, mehendi, reception or even to renew your vows.To sum it up, if you are looking for something new magical and extraordinary…. This is the place for weddings, honeymoon or any other milestone celebrations!!!
